Red"s face while this is going a twitch, like he"s heard it all before...
1:48 Okay, that was very clever.
This movie is free on crackle.
Thank you Stephen King. We"ll see you in court.
I"m gonna take the poop pipe to the crap swamp. I can"t stop laughing.
Let the lord of the black land come forth that"s racist aragorn. Before watching Shawshank Redemption for the first time, I really didn"t think much of it. I thought it had probably wrongfully earned the #1 spot here on IMDb, and couldn"t be better than The Godfather for example. A movie that was "cool" to like, if you will. I could imagine fashion conscious movie-hipsters discussing movies over their glasses of Napa Valley Chardonnay, arguing who liked Shawshank Redemption the most, and which movie by Ingmar Bergman had the strongest metaphorical messages. You get the idea.
I"m sure everything I have to say about the way the movie has been made has been said better in one of the other comments. That said, the reason I"m posting this review is because Shawshank Redemption isn"t only a hardcore movie freak"s wet dream. While it"s brilliantly written, has some of the most fluent acting I have seen and shows the fantastic directing skills of Frank Darabont, you really don"t have to be an expert of film theory to appreciate it. It appeals to so many different groups of people, and so many different human feelings at the same time. The "weaknesses" it had as it came out (the idea of a jail movie not being compatible with the female population, and the idea of a movie about lifelong friendship between two men not being compatible with the male population) is actually the reason Shawshank Redemption is loved by nearly all: It offers something for everyone.
In my opinion rating something 10/10 is a bit too absolute for anything, but since this is probably the best movie I remember seeing, and my first 10/10, I think I"ll let it slide this time.
Strange how Stephen King is mostly known for horror, but yet my favorite story by him isn"t even horror. So glad you did this! love all the additional info! terrific film now more appreciated than before. I"m up for rejection next week. 2:24 at this point my mom covered my eyes and just ruined the whole scene. I don"t guess Frodo was wearing his Mithril when he got stung by the spider. First two times •No saying of his name •No politeness Last time •Says his full name •Politely asks him to sit.
Imagine if Mr Krabs did that to Patrick. The show theme song was from Friends. I"ll be there for you. What. oh oh. Is that him ? Is it h. No no beach dog ????. Every scene with Hadley involved was fantastic. Can"t help myself saying this. Still can"t get over how good Clancy Brown was in this.
Growing up with The Shawshank Redemption, I would always find myself being reminded of the lessons about life and morality that are taught through this movie. Being able to distinguish good from bad is an important skill and The Shawshank Redemption does an exemplary job at providing how people in difficult situations can still be able to overcome the oppression they are faced with. Each character in the film is an endearing component to the life of the movie which hammers its story home to the viewer.
This short piece made me feel so much, I"m proud to sample this for my final year performance. MF is a powerhouse actor. You remember the name of the town in Mexico right. CRAP. ????????????????????????. 1:48 On TV, the Close Captioning for that part just refers to it as Sitcom music rather than the theme from Friends, and it doesn"t use the lyrics, so deaf people miss out on the joke. You don"t understand I"m not supposed to be here! Me neither it like they run this place like a prison. 2:38 when Mr Krabs thinks you"re the one who has his First Dime... 40 years he hasn"t been laid. The original is in my top 3 favorite movies of all time, yet this is funny as hell.
Just like in real life, the bullies and corrupt cant handle the heat when they get court, its always the innocent who stay strong. We have a winner. @ 4:13 Big O smile on my face.
That bit with the Friends song is just too much
That Friends Bit Though Funniest Thing I Have Ever Seen Hahahahahahahahahaha. 106 of 0 * 107 of 16 * 106W of 17. When Heywood goes from chanting with the other guys to telling fat ass to shut up, knowing what Hadley is going to do. Were suppose to show Hadley and Blutch in jail together and Hadley being welcomed the same like he used to welcome.
